#NotALion

Lions drawn by people who had never seen one, and their cousins: #NotAnElephant, #NotADolphin, #NotABear and the rest of the menagerie.

Belgium/ the Netherlands as a #NotALion! Museum Plantin-Moretus

TFW a random woodcut you don't even remembering ordering shows up in the mail. My first Adam and Eve woodcut with a badass bonus #NotALion.

Sure, I can't identify it apart from being (probably) 16th Century, German, but look at that face.

And check out this adorable(?) #NotADog engaged in some sausage-snatching.

Also picked up a cut from Brant’s Ship of Fools. This one from 1610 has a bonus #NotALion.

Ordered a bag of cheap plastic animals for Bruno. Happy to report the #NotALion tradition is alive and well.

Oooooh! Hadn’t realized this lot included a chill #NotALion!

Anyone for a game of #MysteryWoodcut? Just got one of a bear hunt—or rather a #NotABear hunt. Probably late 16th C.

If anyone it up for a game of #MysteryWoodcut, I have yet to identify this early 17C(?) French #NotABear hunt.

Moving in today, which sucks, but I did receive this wonderful Weiditz woodcut with a whole lotta #NotA. We’ve got a #NotALion, #NotABear, and a #NotAnElephant. Am I missing any?

Oooh! Did find my one and only #NotALion block. I think this is one of my first woodcuts—I had no idea what I was doing obviously.

Why am I meticulously creating a #pixelart version of one of Federico de Vinciolo's embroidery patterns of a #NotALion from his Les Singuliers et Nouveaux Portraicts (1588)? Dunno, but it seemed like it needed to be done.

Finished my embroidery pattern–>#pixelart digital transformation of this #NotALion from Federico de Vinciolo's Les Singuliers et Nouveaux Portraicts (1588).

Woodcut/ engraving mail call! Yet another Ship of Fools cut with a nice #NotALion. And a scholar dance of death with something bizarre going on with light/ breath.

At least there’s a bonus #NotALion and #NotAnElephant.

I usually don’t go for title pages, but when it has a great creation of Eve, three #NotALion, and a #WhateverJesus, I’ll make an exception.

If I can do it, I might do the woodcut from Beware the Cat. It’s not a #NotALion, but it is a #NotALeopard from the Hortus Sanitatis. Would that work?

Forgot to mention. What’s the point of an art trip without a few #NotALion. All from @TheRingling.

I’m not even a Rubens fan, but even I have to admit Rubenesque #NotALion are top notch.
